Our story
From one cleaning company to Calabash Mint
Calabash Mint grew out of a cleaning company that Julian Hill started in 1992. Since then it has changed its name, added washroom hygiene and joined forces with Mint Hygiene, but we still take pride in the work, look after our people and do whatever it takes for our clients.

Julian starts his own company
Julian launches his own cleaning company, with his old colleague Tom.

Calabash is born
Julian renames the business after the hotel where he and Helen honeymooned.

Washroom hygiene division
Julian sets it up, led by his cousin and oldest friend, David Richardson.

Calabash meets Mint
Calabash acquires Mint Hygiene. Julian becomes Chairman and David becomes Managing Director.

Mabel steps up
After the loss of David, Mabel becomes Managing Director. Julian remains Chairman.
In loving memory
David Richardson
Managing Director, 2019 – 2024
David, Julian's cousin and oldest friend, took the helm of our washroom hygiene business and became Managing Director in 2019. He ran the company with immense care, kindness, patience and integrity, and earned the trust of our clients and the deep affection of all the staff. David passed away in 2024.

Left school at 17, took an early-morning cleaning job in London and went on to start his own company in 1992.
